- During an emergency room visit: 14.9% received an opioid prescription.
- In an outpatient clinic: 3.1% received an opioid prescription.
- For clavicle fractures: 47.0% received an opioid prescription.
- For ankle fractures: 38.1% received an opioid prescription.
- For dental problems: 59.7% of adolescents and 57.9% of young adults received an opioid prescription.

This study analyzed data for teens and young adults, ages 13 to 22, from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey and the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, for the years 2005 to 2015.
