PCC: 4 barriers to oral health care

1. The uninsured rate for dental insurance is four times higher than the uninsured rate for medical insurance.
2. Of the 2.4 million emergency department visits for a dental problem annually, up to 70% are by uninsured and publicly insured adults. Many of these are preventable.
3. Traditional Medicare, with 37 million beneficiaries, offers no dental coverage.
4. Dental coverage for low-income adults on Medicaid depends on where they live. 11 states provide no dental benefits; 35 states limit coverage; and 19 states require a copay.
