  1. Heart disease deaths (655,281 people); death rate decreased 0.8% since 2017
  2. Cancer deaths (599,274 people); death rate decreased 2.2%
  3. Accidental deaths (167,127 people); death rate decreased 2.8%
  4. Chronic lower respiratory disease deaths (159,486 people); death rate decreased 2.9%
  5. Stroke deaths (147,810 people); death rate decreased 1.3%
  6. Alzheimer disease deaths (122,019 people); death rate decreased 1.6%
  7. Diabetes deaths (84,946 people); no significant change in death rate
  8. Influenza and pneumonia deaths (59,120 people); death rate increased 4.2%
  9. Kidney disease deaths (51,386 people); no significant change in death rate
  10. Suicide deaths (48,344 people); death rate increased 1.4%
