Becker's: 3 Million Records Breachedin Q2 - 6 Things to Know

- May was worst month for healthcare data breaches: 50 incidents disclosed, affecting 1.87M patient records.
- Nine per 1,000 employees breached patient privacy: snooping on family members most common insider threat (71.4 %t)
- Most incidents (36.62%) result of hacking, while 30.99% resulted from insider error or wrongdoing
- Twenty-three of the disclosed breaches, or 16%, involved paper records
- Majority of breaches hit providers (76.37%), followed by health plans (10.91%t) and business associates or vendors (5.45%)
- It took an average of 204 days for an organization to discover a breach
