Six Survey Results on Physician and Patient Views on EHR vs Paper Records

  1. 54% of Physicians viewed EHRs as safer compared to 18% for Paper Records
  2. 47% of Patients viewed Paper Records as safer compared to 39% for EHRs
  3. Of Physicians viewing EHRs as safer, access to records when needed was their top listed benefit (63%)
  4. Of Physicians viewing paper charts as safer, believed that paper is more secure listed their top reason as less likely to be hacked or lost (36%)
  5. Of patients who said EHRs were safer, 77% strongly agree that being able to access records when needed is the greatest benefit
  6. Of patients who said paper charts were safer, 59% agree or strongly agree that paper records are the more private option and allow for more control over who sees those records
