Alex Hunter, Navigant: What Does 2012 Hold for Physician-Hospital Relationships?

1. Innovation will be driven by local markets rather than national policy
2. Hospitals and cardiologists will continue to align, but certain other specialties are likely to become the focus of integration
3. Clinically integrated networks will continue to proliferate and drive alignment
4. Payors will still look to acquire primary care physicians as well as specialists
5. Payors will develop more creative models to drive hospital savings
6. The approach and direction of CMS may change if/when Dr. Donald Berwick leaves
7. ACOs won't gain momentum absent an adjustment to the current regulations
