  1. There’s no rush, people still have until Jan. 1 deadline
  2. Corporate exchanges are completely separate from the exchanges created by the ACA
  3. Expect to be confused: While the exchanges are the centerpiece of the health care law they are an abstract concept
  4. Don’t bother asking our staff for recommendations: Navigators are forbidden to discuss with how specific health plans might affect them.
  5. Blue states do it better: States handing the exchanges to the federal governmtent generally have fewer resources
  6. Abuse our honor system at your peril: With the young system people will try to take advantage but experts say they will pay
  7. People who receive health benefits through their employer aren’t eligible for health insurance subsidies through the exchanges
  8. Officials caution consumers to beware of con artists when buying insurance in the marketplace
  9. Consumers can try to stay on their same plan or look for one that covers their doctor, but this might not be possible in some marketplaces
