Steps Physicians Can Take to Avoid the 2012 Medicare ePrescribing Penalty

- Determine if you meet criteria that excludes you from being subject to the penalty
- If you don't meet exclusion criteria, determine if you qualify got significant hardship exemption categories that exempt you
- If you meet any exemption categories, file for exemption that applies to your particular hardship situation by using CMS’ Web-based tool
- When you apply online for exemption, include following information: Identifying information; the applicable significant hardship exemption category ; justification statement; attestation of accuracy
