Three healthsprocket lists have been posted with excerpts from Vitals 2015 study physician wait time for patients:
Top 5 States with the Shortest Average Wait Times To See The Doctor
Top 5 Cities with the Shortest Average Wait Times To See The Doctor
Top Specialists With The Shortest Average Wait Times
Vitals: 5 States With The Longest Average Wait Times To See The Doctor

Vitals found that "the national average for wait times dropped to 19 minutes and 16 seconds, a full one-minute shorter than the 2014 wait time average."

Vitals contends that this demonstrates the first year of additional insureds generated from the Affordable Care Act didn't overwhelm the available supply of physicians, although they acknowledge other factors may be involved, such as "alternative care facilities, like urgent care centers and retail clinics, could be taking the burden off primary care doctors. Physician extenders, like nurse practitioners and physician assistants, may also be easing doctor caseloads. Even the rise of concierge medicine can be diverting patients from traditional group practice care."

The above lists by cities and states indicate material regional variation in wait times, as in their past annual findings. Notice the concentration of the bottom five states in the "5 States With The Longest Average Wait Times" list.

Vital provides a variety of graphs of their findings in their Vitals Wait Time Report.
